2009 Albany County Report

Just wanted to let you know that our events last week for Step Up for Kids Week were overall a success.  Although some of the resource tables from the community didn't feel like braving the cold, we did have tables from the Youth Crisis Center, Cathedral Home, Dept. of Health, Raising Readers in Wyoming, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Interfaith/Good Samaritan in attendance.  We had about a total of 50 community members show up to support the event and had a single mother speaker who talked about the importance of government assisted programs, a rep. from the Wyo. Dept. of Family Services (Gary Hearne) who spoke on foster parenting and adopting, Marc Homer spoke about the importance of advocacy with more statistical info., and Senator Mike Massie who spoke on importance of education, health care, how citizens can make a difference.  Then on Saturday, the Student WEA group at UW put a float in the Homecoming parade where we passed out the stickers and small info. flyers to the crowd.  While blizzarding and cold for both our events, I think they turned out to be overall successful.
