Step Up 2009

Cheyenne Event

Laramie

On October 3, 2009 the Cheyenne Step Up for Kids event kicked off event though the outside temperature was a chilly 40 degrees. They started the event with a parade from the back of the Supreme Court Building to the steps of the Capitol led by the Governor and First Lady. The Governor read and signed a proclamation declaring October 2-10 Step Up for Kids Week in Wyoming. The First Lady then led the crowd of approximately 100 people in a cheer " Every Child Matters ". Cheyenne Representative Lori Millin spoke to the crowd about the importance of building a strong foundation for our children. A foster parent, a parent of a child with mental health issues, and a CLIMB Wyoming graduate shared their inspiring stories. Following the speeches participants spent two hours visiting with volunteers from approximately ten organizations that serve children. Children decorated t-shirts and piggy
banks, played games and visited with firefighters and the Sherriff's canine unit officers. The Cheyenne team did a great job raising awareness in the Capitol City.
